ISP Totally Blues Pedal Question: “What pedal do you have for the serious blues player?” Answer: the ISP Technologies Totally Blues™ pedal. ISP has created a pedal that features a novel clipping circuit designed to allow asymmetrical clipping like most tube amplifiers. This feature provides unique enhancement of the harmonic content of the fundamental note. There is also higher gain designed into the circuit to allow more “push” to satisfy any playing style.
To satisfy the Blues Guitarist need for tonal versatility we have designed and incorporated a “mojo” control in the clipping circuit. This control allows adjustment for the amount of bass being processed in the clipper circuit and increases overall fatness of the distortion circuit, allowing thickening of the fundamental note on initial picking attack. The Totally Blues™ features higher gain than most overdrive pedals and asymmetrical clipping technology. Housed in the same trademark rugged, beautifully polished smooth chrome chassis as ISP's famous Decimator Pedal, the Totally Blues™ will be an awesome addition to your pedal board! Suggested Control Settings Here are some sound clips recorded by us right here for each of the suggested settings. They were made with a Fender Strat into a clean amp type setting with a hint of distortion. The Totally Blues Settings were made exactly according to the manufacturer's suggestions though you can coax endless combinations of overdrive, boost and or fatness with this super excellent sounding pedal. I have AB'd it up against several popular 'boo-teek' pedals and it beat them all for pristine, transparent and having the fattest boost tones, bar none! Note: First, you will hear the guitar played clean for a few seconds and then with the effect applied. NOTE: ISP Technologies has 2 Overdrive/Distortion type pedals. The Totally Blues Pedal and the Fetish Pedal. The Totally Blues is based on asymmetrical clipping like most tube amplifiers, while the Fetish Pedal utilizes FETs or (Field Effects Transistors) to create a dynamic (heavy) and soft clipping gain boost effect prior to the distortion circuit. Plus with the added gain structure, the Fetish pedal has more gain than typical overdrives. Also for tone shaping, the distortion circuit uses a 4558 IC. With the gain structure utilized, the Fetish can be used as a clean boost and or a treble boost. Recommendations: If you're having trouble deciding which pedal is best suited to your playing style, keep in mind that the asymmetrical clipping is softer and more tube like in the overdriven settings, while the Fetish is a bit hotter and can get downright nasty, with lots of overdrive gain capabilities for the occasional blues and heavy rock or metal player. You can also get milder overdrives from the Fetish pedal but it is more designed for the heavier or treble boost tones and sounds a bit heavier in all positions compared to the softer clipping Totally Blues pedal. If you're a blues player, or light classic rock player, then the Totally Blues is definitely the smoothest, cleanest and fattest pedal for you. If you're a heavy rocker and Black Sabbath is more up your alley, then you definitely want to go with the Fetish Pedal. Neither is better than the other. They're just different in how they operate and sound sonically. |
